Inspired Giving
Giving that transforms
Here’s the last paragraph of an email we received last week:
“B1G1 has transformed our entire business in one week.
I have been looking for something or some way of doing this since I started the business 5 ½ years ago. Thank you, Masami Sato and the B1G1 team for this opportunity and privilege.”
That’s neat — actually, much more than neat. And we could go off and make a big song and dance about it. But let’s not do that for now. Let’s look a little deeper.
And to do that, let’s look at the business involved, Giovanni Silanesu’s Inspired Constructions, Pools and Landscaping based in Brisbane, Australia. And like many recent B1G1 Partners, Gio is also a graduate of the National College of Business (something you should very definitely check out if your business is in Queensland, Australia).
When you take a look at the Inspired Constructions web site you realise right way that this is a very different building company. You see, right up front, that their mission is ‘to connect with people to demolish their fears so that we can build their dreams.’
But the thing that caught my eye was the simple yet effective idea of downloading an e-book — it’s called ‘The Construction Process BIBLE’. In the logic behind it is a message. Gio explains it like this:
The e-book was inspired by the lack of transparency in our industry and therefore knowledge for clients in the design and pricing of a construction project. I was constantly coming in contact with people who were frustrated, mistrusting and in a lot of cases down right aggressive about the process of getting their house renovated or built.
I have always felt that this should be the most exciting adventure that we undertake, after all this is to be the place where we raise our families share our heartaches and pleasures with the people that mean the most to us.
But this is not always the case. Many clients that we meet have little idea of the process they need to go through and as a result of this lack of knowledge they end up making mistakes that cost them a great deal of money. And generally this has happened before they have even started the physical construction of the project.
So I documented our philosophy and process of how to design and construct your home etc. From pre-design to signing up with a builder. It is a consumer guide to many steps and pitfalls within the process. It is a guide to help reduce the anxiety around building and lift the level of trust within our industry. We give a copy of this to all prospective clients for their education and hope that they get the intended value that I have tried to create.
This is a part of how we create the mission of this company which is to connect with people, to demolish their fears so that we can build their dreams. We do this because we love the feeling we get when we get it right. In fact we are addicted to it.
You get something of Gio’s passion in that last little sentence. Don’t you love it: ‘we’re addicted to it’.
And you get that sense of passion from this note Gio penned about his first week’s experience with B1G1.
Paul:
Thanks for your time the other night. I thought I might share with you the positive impact that has occurred in our business to date since joining B1G1 last week. I felt so uplifted that I wanted to act on this as soon as possible. We have had some transforming conversations as a company and the results are as follows.
From this date forward we have implemented a dedicated system to ensuring that with each payment we receive from our clients we will dedicate a % of the payment to B1G1 Charities.
We have spoken with our staff and asked if they would like to be part of the giving experience and you might guess what response we have had from them. They were ecstatic and it was a resounding yes. We have spoken about how exciting this is and there is a real buzz around the place.
Our staff will be exploring the website over the coming weeks to determine their favourite charity.
Once they have determined their charity of choice they will donate to the choice and we will then present our client with a certificate at the completion of the progress payment. The staff member will explain to our client why they have chosen the charity and why it resonated with them. They then will thank the client for the opportunity to be able to make a difference in this way.
I have already done this on a small project where we did some work for lady whose husband is critically ill. She was speechless, I started to well up, and when I left, I felt that not only had we helped 150 children in India but we had lifted the spirits of someone that deserved it here as well.
I cannot explain to you in words the value that we feel when we are connected to our clients and community in this way. I named my company Inspired Constructions Pools and Landscaping for a reason. I wanted to Inspire our clients in every way. And now I feel that not only will we inspire them with the work that we do for them but with the contribution to these causes.
B1G1 has transformed our entire business in one week by completing our circle of inspiration.
I have been looking for something or some way of doing this since I started the business 5 ½ years ago. Thank you, Masami Sato and the B1G1 team for this opportunity and privilege.
Kind Regards
Gio Silanesu
