Founded by Jacqui Gilmour in 2004, Hope for Children works in Ethiopia to support vulnerable children, young people and their families to realise their inherent potential.

THE PROBLEM

In Ethiopia, nearly

13 million

 children live in poverty.

In 2015, less than

30%

of children were enrolled in pre-primary school

UNIQUE APPROACH

Hope For Children works with vulnerable Ethiopian communities in the areas of health, education, and livelihood. Hope For Children’s approach is two-fold: to foster community based participation, resilience and creative problem-solving to address current challenges; and to develop replicable models of success for dissemination across Ethiopia.
They believe in the potential of all Ethiopian children. They envisage a time when, driven by the availability of a quality education, all Ethiopians will have the opportunity to participate meaningfully in the future direction and development of their country.

Project 1:

Provide Access to ICT and Internet for a Student

The St Yared school provides free quality education and also encourages digital literacy among the students. Providing access to ICT and internet opens the chance to be competitive in today’s digital world.

Project 2:

Provide Access to School Attire for a Student

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

On 25 September 2015, world leaders convened to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They represent the global community’s next step in ending poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and tackling climate change for the next 15 years. The projects from Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors contribute to 2 of these goals. Click on the goals to find out more.
